After conjugation with the PLGA polymers, the nanocomposite was tested for the release of the anti-cancer drug camptothecin (CPT) in vitro. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) confirmed the presence of amide groups in the BSA molecules. Photoluminescence and fluorescence spectroscopy revealed the formation of a new luminescent band for the bismuth ZnO/PLGA composite due to the surface quenching effect of BSA molecules. The morphology and structure of the nanocomposites were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). A bovine serum albumin (BSA)-conjugated bismuth ZnO/PLGA nanocomposite was prepared by an electrostatic interaction method. This study demonstrates the formation of a biomolecule-conjugated nano-doped bismuth ZnO/PLGA nanocomposite for anti-cancer drug delivery.
